Principal’s update:
- Students are starting to feel the effects of the COVID-19 protocols (masks, zones/bubbles). Students with exceptionalities and behaviour issues are particularly affected.
- No feedback to the school re: Virtual parent-teacher.
- Diversity week (2 weeks) including MAGMA presentations and other in-school activities. Playing music selected by children to represent their country; Mrs. Frenette and Mrs. Panagiotakis are visiting the classrooms to engage the children in age-appropriate discussions about immigration, indigenous peoples, commonalities and differences; black and Asian Canadian activities; languages spoken in the school word search.
- Kindergarten orientation is face-to-face so the school is making preparations.
- Our School survey data from the grade 4 and 5 students is in, staff to review what can be done to put the feedback to good use.
- End of year activities for grade 5 students being planned by Home & School (drive thru and certificates, similar to last year); transitions to MPL (ESS team meeting with teachers, students with exceptionalities already starting to have visits to support the transition, gr 5 student visit to MPL being planned.
- Staffing has started (regular class sizes for 2021-2022).
- Grade 4 provincial assessment: end of May, this year it is Reading comprehension only
Bridge the gapp – mental health support and services for adults and children. Self-assessment tools, self-referral, etc. Should be formally presented to families at Meet the Teacher in September.
Closing out this year – need to complete Principal’s review before the end of the academic year
