  • Discussion

Principal’s update:

  • Thank you to the Home and School for their efforts during Staff Appreciation week. Their efforts did not go unnoticed and were appreciated by all
  • Discussed enrichment opportunities that are available for students right now (Frye Festival, INNOVATE, Poetry competition)
  • Students and staff are showing resilience and dealing with COVID-19 guidelines and overall the compliance to rules is excellent.
  • Staff are working on ways to keep school population connected in the absence of school wide activities/assemblies, etc.
  • Students and staff celebrated Kindness week with activities from Mrs. Fowler
  • Some diversity activities planned for April

Budget:

  • It was decided to use this year’s PSSC budget toward paper.

Communication to families about services/resources

  • Continued from the previous meeting in Fall, there is a need to make sure families are aware of the wide range of supports and services available to them in our province.
  • Social development is preparing programming/information that can be shared widely with the school community (was expected before March break, will have it by the next PSSC meeting in April)

Traffic safety

  • Traffic and Kiss and Ride is becoming increasingly more of a concern, especially since Christmas (parking illegally on Evergreen and opening doors into the street to let students out, speeding in the school zone, late arrivals)
  • Alan proposed the option of the unused land on Clermont could potentially be developed into a second drop off lane (for older student who do not need assistance/supervision leaving their vehicles). Would be a city issue, could be brought to Bryan Bulter (or Ward 3 incumbent after election)
  • Also discussed changing how the students exit the vehicles, having more students exiting at once rather than only when they reach the end of the Kiss and Ride lane; may require more staff, maxed out at 4 on this duty now.

Committee Membership

  • Alan to confirm committee membership; a few emails bounced back to the invites and will get up to date information from Mrs. Tingley in the office to reach out to members to confirm they are continuing for the remainder of the academic year.
